It is no toothless tiger either – if complaints lodged with the Council are upheld, it revokes its sought after Certified Financial Planner (C.F.P.) award, and publishes its disciplinary finding on its website too.

The Council’s C.F.P. Award is the Gold Standard of the Canadian Financial Planning Industry. Currently more than 17,500 individuals are certified as meeting the required norms, ensuring that reliable advice is available in almost every Canadian city and town. This does not mean that everybody who refers to themselves as a Financial Planner is registered – moreover each Province sets its own standards and in some cases there are no statutory controls at all.
